Variation 1: Early style different diameter axle

• Distinguishing features:
• There is a thicker 17mm section on the right side of the axle
• Part number(s):
• 44311-028-000: frame number 111,565 to 640,254
• Early or Late: Early
• Matching/required parts:
• Early front fork (with removable axle holders)
• Front wheel side collar (17mm OD, at left of the picture below)
• 17x37x7 oil seal [part 90755-028-000]
• Notes:
• This style axle matches the early front forks with the detachable axle holders
• This axle requires a 10x1.25 (fine thread) nut which is a discontinued Honda part and a bit harder to find.  [part 90305-001-000]

Variation 1: Late style single diameter axle

• Distinguishing features:
• Part number(s):
• 44301-229-000: superceded
• 44301-229-010: frame number 639,755 to 930,010 (has thru-hole end)
• 44301-107-000: frame numer 930,011 onward (has captured nut end)
• Early or Late: Late
• Matching/required parts:
• Late front fork (single piece)
• 21x37x7 oil seal [part number 90755-229-000]
• Side collar (spacer) with 21mm OD [part 44311-028-000]  
• Notes:
• This style axle matches with the late style single-piece front fork
• This axle requires the more common 12mm axle nut.  [part 90305-028-000]
