Late style cylinder heads had a valve stem seal (along with a valve stem cap) on the exhaust guide.

This shot shows the valve stem seal cap on the guide. The black seal can be seen just poking out of the top.
This is a guide with no seal or cap (this happens to be the intake on the same cylinder head).
